Guillermo Trujillo El Cadejo Negro 2000, acrylic on canvas, 60×50″

a talk by Dr. Angélica María Guadamuz Núñez

Angélica’s investigation explores the work of Panamanian artists through myth, cosmogony, and contemporary themes, providing a privileged window into the world-view of the Guna people. Central to the work are ritual practices, therapeutic chants, and spiritual figures such as the nuchus, which serve as vehicles for ancestral knowledge and cultural memory. This art bridges ancestral rituals and modern issues—such as climate change and technology—highlighting how Indigenous cosmogony and ceremonial practices continue to shape cultural identity and intercultural understanding.

She holds a Doctor of Education (Research Focus) from Universidad del Istmo, Panama; a Master’s degree in University Teaching from ISAE University; and a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity College, Washington, D.C. She has also completed specialized training in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. She has extensive experience in higher education as a lecturer in Art History and Visual Arts.

Dr. Guadamuz Núñez is recognized for her work bridging academic research, art interpretation, and public engagement. Her professional practice includes authoring exhibition texts and curatorial statements, as well as promoting cultural heritage to diverse audiences.
